Sri Muniswarar Temple brings Deepavali joy to the needy

The Sri Muniswarar Temple, Jalan Baru, once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the community by donating essential items to 400 underprivileged individuals and persons with disabilities (OKU) during this year’s Deepavali celebration.

This annual gesture has become a hallmark of the temple’s charity, now in its 16th consecutive year.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the donation ceremony at the Sri Muniswarar Temple, underscoring the significance of sharing joy with those less fortunate.

In his speech, he praised the temple committee’s tireless efforts in supporting the community, stating, “Their dedication brings happiness and financial relief to many during this festive season.”

The Chief Minister’s presence further highlighted the importance of such initiatives in maintaining harmony and social welfare.

Support through Sri Muniswarar Temple

The Sri Muniswarar Temple’s commitment to inclusivity was evident as the donations reached recipients from various ethnic backgrounds, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, could celebrate the Festival of Lights with dignity.

Hampers containing essential kitchen items for preparing Deepavali meals were distributed, along with clothes, shoes, and festive money for 200 children from orphanages and special schools

The temple’s president, Major (K) M. Segaran, revealed that over RM150,000 had been allocated for this year’s Deepavali donations.

The temple’s charitable activities are not limited to festive seasons; annually, they spend about RM400,000 on community support, including providing educational resources for Tamil schools across the state.

Future projects aimed at expanding support

The Sri Muniswarar Temple’s impact on the community extends beyond its charitable donations.

Plans are in motion to build a multipurpose hall in Bukit Mertajam, with a 1,000-person capacity, primarily benefiting the low-income B40 group.

This space will serve as a hub for social gatherings, sports activities, and community events, filling a gap in available facilities

Major Segaran also announced plans for a welfare home, a dialysis centre, and a one-stop centre for cultural ceremonies in Perai, stating, “These projects will further enhance the support we provide to the local community.”

These developments reflect the temple’s forward-thinking approach, seeking to create long-term solutions to local needs.
