The Malaysia-China Summit 2024 (MCS 2024) was officially launched yesterday by Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). As the capstone event marking the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China bilateral relations, the summit is poised to amplify Malaysia’s role as a strategic bridge between ASEAN and China.
Running from December 17 to 19, the event is set against the backdrop of Malaysia’s upcoming ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025. Themed “Prosperity Beyond 50,” the summit aims to catalyse regional development and collaboration in key sectors such as digital technology, green innovation, and sustainable manufacturing.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, YB Anthony Loke reflected on the robust trade ties between Malaysia and China, stating, “Over the decades, Malaysia’s partnership with China has been a vital part of our journey. Today, China is one of our largest trading partners and a key source of investment in critical sectors, from electronics to green technology. But this relationship is beyond commerce—it is about vision, trust, and shared progress.”
Unlocking Economic Opportunities
MCS 2024 is expected to create substantial economic value, with trade and investment opportunities projected to exceed RM2 billion. Organised by Qube Integrated Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Qube) in association with MATRADE, the summit serves as the final economic pillar programme under MITI’s commemorative initiatives.
MATRADE’s Chairman, YB Dato’ Seri Reezal Merican, highlighted the importance of the event in fostering fruitful engagements between Malaysian exporters and international buyers. “We see strong interest from Chinese importers and buyers seeking to source from Malaysia, and through our five offices in China, we managed to facilitate successful engagements between Chinese buyers and Malaysian exporters. With 49 trade offices worldwide, MATRADE continues to open new opportunities for Malaysian exporters” he said.
One of the summit’s flagship features is MATRADE’s International Sourcing Programme (INSP), which facilitates pre-arranged meetings between local companies and global buyers. This initiative underlines the summit’s role as a gateway for businesses to penetrate new markets.
