Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is strengthening staff competencies in event management and media communications through a two-day professional development workshop aimed at aligning practices with evolving industry standards.
The UPSI 2026 Professionalism in Event and Media Management Workshop, themed “Strengthening Event Management and Media Officers to Global Standards”, was held at the Convention Hall, E-Learning Building, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, and brought together about 90 staff members from various centres of responsibility.
Focus on governance and professional competencies

UPSI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Md Amin Md Taff said the programme reflected the university’s continued efforts to enhance quality governance through staff development.
“UPSI is always committed to strengthening quality governance across various areas, including event management and corporate communications, as both play an important role in shaping the university’s image and reputation,” he said.
He added that staff needed to adapt to developments in media and digital technologies as communication environments become increasingly fast-paced and dynamic.
Md Amin said event management involved more than ensuring programmes ran smoothly, encompassing strategic planning, guest experience, communication, branding and the delivery of institutional messages.
Training covers events, media and digital content
UPSI Corporate Communications Division Director Prof. Dr. Mohd Izwan Shahril said the workshop focused on event management, creative and strategic media content, and the effective use of digital platforms.
He said participants were divided into three groups — Event Executive, U-Media and New Media — allowing training and knowledge-sharing to be tailored to their respective roles.
“These three areas complement one another. Professional event management must go hand in hand with effective media management and strategic digital content production,” he said.

Among the speakers were RTM personality Andy Reza Rohadian Khairul Anwar, who shared insights on professionalism in event and media management, and Malaysia Gazette Perak Editor Mohamad Hafizi Mohd Said, who conducted a session on news writing through artificial intelligence (AI).
