Fifteen Indonesians will always remember their first day of Ramadhan this year, as they had cheated death when a storm
caused their boat to sink.

The vessel, ‘Anugerah Rezeki’, was transporting 276,000 kg of ‘belacan’ (shrimp paste) worth RM117,000 from Tanjung Balai, Indonesia to Satun, Thailand when the storm struck about 11pm.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Fourth Maritime District enforcement chief Captain Mohd Amir Hamzah said the victims, aged between 30 and 50, were rescued by a tug boat, ‘Atlantic Gulf’.

“The tug boat ferried the victims before transferring them onto another tug boat, ‘Mas Indera 7’, which was on its way to Port Klang,” he said during a news conference yesterday.
