Malaysia Day celebrations head to Unity Stadium, Kuching

This year’s national-level Malaysia Day celebrations are poised to captivate audiences at Unity Stadium in Kuching, Sarawak, on the evening of September 16.

As Sarawak enjoys the privilege of hosting these festivities, it aligns with a Cabinet decision made on June 24, 2020. This decision established a rotational system for Malaysia Day celebrations, involving Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsula Malaysia.

A spectacular evening for Malaysia Day

The celebrations are scheduled to kick off with a pre-show event at 7pm, setting the stage for the main event at 8.30pm. The evening will witness the arrival of acting Yang Dipertua Negeri Sarawak, Tan Sri Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, alongside distinguished guests.

These luminaries include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg, and his wife, Puan Sri Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

Also gracing the event will be Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Juliah Salang.

Embracing unity with “Segulai Sejalai”

While the Malaysia Day theme harmonizes with that of National Day, centred on “Malaysia Madani: Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan,” this celebration carries the slogan “Segulai Sejalai,” which translates to “Walking hand-in-hand” in the Iban language.

This powerful phrase embodies the spirit of unity and collaboration among Malaysia’s diverse populace, mirroring the central aspiration of Malaysia Madani, as elucidated by the committee.

The celebration’s highlights include a significant signing ceremony of the Malaysia Day Special Book, a majestic Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy parade, and a captivating Malaysia Day concert.

The Malaysia Day 2023 celebrations will be broadcast live by RTM. Audiences across the nation can tune in to major stations like TV3, Astro Awani, TV AlHijrah, Bernama TV, TV Sarawak (TVS), and SUKE TV to join in the festivities and witness the grandeur of this significant event.
