The box office hit Crazy Rich Asians filmed in Malaysia and Singapore features many jaw-dropping locations to re-create the vast amount of wealth in the family.

The 2018 movie Crazy Rich Asians depicts the glamorous lifestyle of the upper circle in Singapore.

The film directed by Jon M. Chu follows the story of Chinese-American professor Rachel Chu, who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick Young to meet his family who are among Singapore’s elite.

The box office hit filmed in Malaysia and Singapore features many jaw-dropping locations with impressive architecture to re-create the vast amount of wealth in the family.

Here are some of the posh homes that was featured in the movie.

Carcosa Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur featured in Crazy Rich Asians

The Carcosa Seri Negara was built in 1986 as the home of Malaya’s first British High Commissioner, Sir Frank Swettenham.

The twin building is located at the hilltop overlooking the Perdana Botanical Gardens of Kuala Lumpur.

It holds many historic significance as it was where the nation’s independence agreement was signed. It was falling into disrepair due to poor maintenance before it was repaired by Crazy Rich Asians crew in 2017.

It was depicted as Nick Young’s family ancestral home in the movie. The mansion is now being redeveloped into Asian Heritage Museum.

Istana Woodneuk, Singapore

The Istana Woodneuk is a mansion built by the ancestors of the Johor Crown Prince in the late 19th century.

The abandoned mansion is located on a vacant estate known as Tyersall Park near Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, an UNESCO World Heritage site.

The estate which is owned by the royal family of Johor, is valued to be over US$2.5 billion and said to be 30 times the size of The White House.

According to Kevin Kwan, the author of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’, the estate inspired the fictional setting of the Young family’s ancestral mansion.

With its wood-panelled main room and grand staircases the Istana Woodneuk stood gracefully until the 1990’s.

The ruins of Istana Woodneuk was deemed beyond repair after a major fire in 2006 destroyed most of its upper structure. 

The land is currently restricted from residential or commercial use. Talks are currently underway for it to be redeveloped into a luxury housing area.

Crazy Rich Asians filmed at Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Penang

Also known as The Blue Mansion due to its dazzling blue-coloured facade, the mansion is a landmark heritage building located in George Town, Penang.

Built by Chinese industrialist Cheong Fatt Tze in the early 19th century, the unique Peranakan-style estate is an architectural wonder filled with historic splendour.

The mansion’s porcelain tile-work and nouveau stained glass is built to resemble traditional-style Chinese courtyard houses.

It was built in accordance with the principles of feng shui, to welcome good luck. The hidden zen garden and large round lanterns floating above its granite air well gives a magical feel to the arena.

Today it functions as a boutique hotel, which offers a glimpse at the opulent lifestyle of the early 20th century.

The location, where Eleanor Young meets Rachel Chu for a face-off was redecorated to resemble a mahjong parlour for the movie.

KEN Bangsar is the penthouse in Crazy Rich Asians

KEN Bangsar, a service residence in Kuala Lumpur’s trendy, upmarket neighbourhood sets itself apart with its eco-friendly and sustainable features.

It was awarded the first BCA Green Mark GoldPLUS Award, the first to be conferred this recognition outside of Singapore. Other honours include the GBI Gold Award and PAM Green Excellence Award.

The scene where Eddie Cheng’s family hosts a photoshoot at his fancy penthouse in Hong Kong was actually filmed at the KEN Bangsar lobby.

While several scenes of Astrid Leong at her apartment in Singapore were filmed at the property’s triplex penthouse.

KEN Bangsar offers three different units to meet individual preferences. There are 1-bedroom studio units ideal for couples or small families, and the 3-bedroom apartment units for larger groups.

Those looking for the ultimate extravagance can opt for the 8,500 sq ft 5-bedroom triplex penthouse. The penthouse also features a private swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a steam room and an entertainment room, which would make for a phenomenal party. 

The penthouse is also the first in the country to exclusively feature the TOTO Neorest, the world’s most technologically advanced toilet.

An innovative engineering system known as CHEE kept the KEN Bangsars lobby cool via a Condensed water from the air-conditioning system is recycled onto an evaporative feature wall while waste heat is reused to generate hot water for common toilets.

Be-landa House, Kuala Lumpur

Be-landa House, Kuala Lumpur featured as Eleanor Young's house in Crazy Rich Asians

Literally translated as ‘Dutch House’, the Be-landa House is a stunning architectural residence set in a lush green forest reserve at the edge of Kuala Lumpur. The 6 bedroom mansion is built on stilts at a 35 degree hillside slope among the treetops.

Its consists of three pavilions linked by a glass-walled bridge and seven staircases in eco-friendly design.

The house is depicted in the movie as the private residence of Nick’s mom Eleanor Young who is first seen attending a Bible study session there.

Goh Peik Lin’s house, Singapore

The house of Rachel’s college friend Peik Lin Goh played by Awkwafina was inspired by the grand style of the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles.

However the real house which is in Cluny Park, Singapore does not contain the gilded decorations and marble columns.

Located near the Botanic Gardens the mansion is usually rented out for around  $40k per month.
