Nga said the proclamation ceremony would be decided once the matter has obtained the consent of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

With a history dating back to 1890, Klang has stood the test of time and met all the requirements to be granted city status at 133 years old. The upgrade is expected to bring about significant advancements in infrastructure, services, and overall liveability, ultimately benefiting the people of Klang.

The Sentuhan Kasih programme, hosted by the ministry at Bangunan MPK, unveiled 21 approved projects amounting to RM5 million.

These projects aim to upgrade public facilities within the municipality and are scheduled to commence promptly, with completion expected by year-end.

Among the key projects are the revitalization of the Port Klang Market, improvements to stalls in the Port Klang area, upgrading of Jalan Goh Hock Huat or Jalan Keretapi Lama, and the construction of pedestrian and bicycle lanes on Jambatan Kota.

These initiatives will not only enhance the city’s physical landscape but also elevate the overall quality of life for its residents.
