This visionary approach not only aims to provide customers with greater accessibility to the brand’s offerings but also to contribute to the local economy.

Azmir emphasized that beyond the prospect of increased dining options, this expansion plan is set to generate substantial job opportunities. Currently, McDonald’s operates 16 outlets in Sabah, employing 1,600 people.

However, the new restaurant openings are projected to create approximately 5,000 jobs across the entire state, spreading the economic benefits to both urban and rural areas.

McDonald’s Malaysia is fostering strategic collaborations to underpin its expansion endeavours. A significant milestone in this direction is the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between McDonald’s Malaysia and Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) on August 18.

This collaboration involves the acquisition of 1.6 hectares of land owned by KKIP to establish a comprehensive food hub. The hub will encompass manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and delivery centres, streamlining the operations of McDonald’s quick service restaurants in East Malaysia.

Prominent suppliers like Bimbo QSR for bun and bread supplies, Tyson Foods for vegetables and protein products, and HAVI Logistics for distribution are integral partners in this endeavor. These suppliers have a longstanding relationship with McDonald’s both on a local and global scale, ensuring a seamless supply chain for the expanded operations.

McDonald’s Malaysia’s commitment to expansion aligns not only with its business goals but also with its dedication to creating sustainable job opportunities and boosting economic growth in Sabah.
