Malaysia secures third place at World Corporate Golf Finals

Team Leonian Malaysia 1 clinched third in the World Corporate Golf Challenge, marking a proud achievement for Malaysia in this prestigious global event.

The Malaysian corporate golf community is celebrating a remarkable achievement as Team Leonian Malaysia 1, represented by golfers Lee Robert and Anushka Gayan Wijerathne, clinched third place in the prestigious World Corporate Golf Challenge (WCGC) World Final. The tournament took place in Haikou, China, from October 28 to November 1, 2024, attracting participation from 30 countries, highlighting its status as a premier international corporate golf event.

Team Leonian Malaysia 1 delivered an impressive performance, finishing with a total of 87 points. Competing against some of the best golfers worldwide, the duo showcased remarkable skill and determination, earning pride for Malaysia and establishing Leonian Malaysia as a significant player in the realm of corporate golf.

Leonian Malaysia 1 Shines on Global Stage

Reflecting on their achievement, Anushka Gayan Wijerathne expressed pride in the team’s performance: “It was a great experience and a well-organised event with participants from 30 countries, including Malaysia. The WCGC is an excellent platform for business networking through golf, and my partner, Lee Robert, and I went all out to bring home the title. Although we finished third, we’re proud of our achievement for Leonian Malaysia, and we’re motivated to aim even higher next year.”

In addition to the top team’s success, Team Leonian Malaysia 2, consisting of Ang Khai Phang and Kong Tuck Keat, also represented the country with commendable effort, finishing in 21st place with a total of 68 points. Ang praised the performance of his compatriots, stating, “Participating in a world-class golf tournament like this one has been truly inspiring. I’m very proud of Lee Robert and Anushka for their third-place finish. Competing with teams from around 30 countries isn’t easy, and their success is a testament to their skill and dedication.”

Expanding Corporate Golf Opportunities

The competition concluded with Japan taking the championship title with 93 points, followed closely by India in second place with 90 points, and Malaysia proudly securing third place with 87 points. This achievement signifies a significant milestone for the Malaysian corporate golf scene.

Elora Global, the licensee for WCGC in Malaysia, is enthusiastic about the future of corporate golf in the country. Shoban Ramlu, Managing Director of Elora Global, shared plans for the 2025 season: “We’re preparing to host several qualifying rounds, allowing corporate companies to experience the thrill of this world-class event locally.”
