Andrew Netto returns with unfiltered anniversary stand-up special this October

Malaysian stand-up comedian Andrew Netto is set to mark nearly two decades in comedy with a one-night-only anniversary special, Nothing But Netto, on Oct 24 at D’Stage Theatre, Jaya One, promising audiences an evening of unfiltered storytelling, improvisation and personal reflections.

The 90-minute production will feature two performances at 6pm and 8.30pm, celebrating the career of one of Malaysia’s early English-language stand-up comedians who emerged before the local comedy scene gained widespread popularity.

Netto, often described as the “good bad boy” of Malaysian comedy, has built his reputation on candid observations, audience interaction and stories inspired by his personal experiences. Organisers say the anniversary show will revisit defining moments from his career while introducing fresh material drawn from his life over the past two decades.

The performance will also be staged at the newly upgraded D’Stage Theatre in Petaling Jaya, featuring enhanced sound and LED screen technology aimed at providing a more immersive live entertainment experience.

Career spans international stages and corporate events

Andrew Netto began performing stand-up comedy in 2009 under the mentorship of Malaysian comedian Harith Iskander and quickly established himself within the country’s growing comedy circuit.

Among his notable career milestones are opening for international comedian Russell Peters before an audience of more than 8,000 people and sharing stages with comedians including Ahmed Ahmed and Maz Jobrani. He has also represented Malaysia on Comedy Central Stand Up Asia! and performed across several international cities, including London, Barcelona, Singapore and Jakarta.

Netto also holds a place in the Malaysia Book of Records for delivering the country’s first stand-up comedy performance aboard an aircraft, highlighting his willingness to experiment with unconventional performance venues.

Beyond public theatre performances, he has become a familiar face in Malaysia’s corporate events industry, hosting and entertaining audiences for multinational companies and major local organisations.

Show promises honest, unscripted humour

Unlike comedians who rely heavily on fictional personas, Netto’s material draws extensively from real-life experiences, covering topics ranging from family life and marriage to cultural identity, personal mishaps and everyday Malaysian situations.

Known for his improvisational style, he frequently incorporates audience interactions into his performances, making each show distinct.

Reflecting on the upcoming anniversary special, Netto said the performance represents both a personal milestone and a celebration of the experiences that have shaped his comedy.

“Twenty years on stage and I still haven’t learned to filter myself—if anything, I’ve only gotten worse. Tickets for Nothing But Netto went on sale on July 17, with organisers encouraging early bookings ahead of the October performances. The event is expected to attract long-time fans as well as newer audiences interested in experiencing one of Malaysia’s pioneering English-language stand-up comedians live on stage.
