The “Himpunan Sejuta Umat” (Gathering of One Million Muslims) or “Himpun” is to go on a tour of three states — Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, next month and in January.
Beginning the tour in Perak at Stadium Indera Muda, Ipoh on Dec 17, Himpun will then head for Negeri Sembilan on Jan 7 and Johor on Jan 28 at venues which have yet to be determined.
Himpun joint chairman Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the three states were chosen not because the number of Muslims who had renounced the religion in these states was increasing but because of the willingness of the committees in these states to implement the programme.
At a press conference here, he said the purpose of the series of tours was to implement the resolution of the first gathering in Shah Alam, Selangor on Oct 22 to raise public awareness on the people’s faith and to promote the feeling of love for the Islamic religion.
He said 10,000 people were expected to attend the gathering in Ipoh from 10am until 1pm.
